NHL announces opening of individual team training facilities
The NHL today announced that it will begin Phase 2 of its return-to-play plan by allowing teams to open up their training facilities to players starting on Monday, June 8th.
This part of the return-to-play plan is completely voluntary for the players. It allows for some to begin using team facilities to train while allowing others who are considered high-risk or those who are waiting to see how quickly the NHL will move to Phase 3 to remain at home. This phase would consist of a set date to begin training camps for those teams taking part in the play-in tournament as well as the round-robin games for the top clubs in each conference.
Phase 2 allows for players to participate in individual training activities, both on and off-ice, and will be scheduled with a maximum of six players plus a limited number of support staff.
This phase also allows for teams to begin making all the necessary preparations for return-to-play, including COVID-19 testing, medical examinations, and other activities that will be required for players to resume their season.
With the season officially over for the Anaheim Ducks, participation in these sessions will likely be limited initially to players living in the Orange County area to begin normal offseason workouts.
