With the 98th overall pick, the Anaheim Ducks select Joshua Lopina. The 6’-2” 194 lb center put up 9 goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 29 games for UMass this past season. Lopin is an older selection being 20 years old, so this was his third year of draft eligibility (He is older than Trevor Zegras).

Lopina had been on the Lincoln Stars of the USHL prior to joining Umass and he never put up huge point totals. He had 62 points in 106 points over two seasons, which is the main reason he went undrafted in the 2019 and 2020 entry drafts. At Umass though, he started to produce in a way that caught the eyes of some scouts. He had a point in 16 of Umass’ 29 games and 7 multi-point games.

He is also solid defensively that can be trusted with tough defensive assignments. If he can develop his offensive game more, he could become a solid bottom 6 option for the Ducks.
