Pat Verbeek to become 6th General Manager in Anaheim Ducks history
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic and TSN is reporting that Pat Verbeek, current Assistant General Manager to Steve Yzerman with the Detroit Red Wings, will become the Anaheim Ducks’ next General Manager, succeeding Bob Murray who resigned for workplace conduct issues on November 10th, 2021. Ducks beat reporter Eric Stephens of The Athletic confirmed the news this afternoon.
After a 21 year playing career in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, and Detroit Red Wings that earned him the nickname “Little Ball of Hate”, Verbeek began working for the Red Wings as a television color analyst in 2002. In 2006, he began working as a scout for the organization before Steve Yzerman successfully recruited him to join his staff with the Tampa Bay Lightning, eventually following Yzerman back to Detroit in 2019.
Verbeek will take over an organization that is fully in the middle of a rebuild, albeit with a contending window that may be arriving faster than anticipated. He will take over one month before a critical trade deadline for the franchise, with three pending UFAs and a few other pieces that may be moved.
