The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they have signed defensemen Jani Hakanpaa and Christian Djoos to one-year contract extensions.

The Athletic’s Eric Stephens reported that both are one-year, one-way contracts with Djoos making $1 million and Hakanpaa making $750,000.

Djoos, 25, was acquired from the Washington Capitals at the trade deadline this year for forward Daniel Sprong in an effort to address the Ducks’ lack of defensive depth. He played in nine games for Anaheim before the season was put on hold, putting up 3 points (1G, 2A) in nine games. He figures to carve out a regular spot in Anaheim’s defensive corps next season.

Hakanpaa, 28, signed a one-year deal last offseason, playing the majority of the season with the San Diego Gulls before making his debut with Anaheim on March 4th and scoring his first career NHL goal on March 11th against the St. Louis Blues. While the deal is one-way, Hakanpaa figures to have to compete for a spot on the Ducks blueline next year.
