Anaheim Ducks Select Ben King with the 107th Overall Pick

With their 4th round selection of the 2022 NHL Draft at #107 overall, the Anaheim Ducks selected forward Ben King from the Red Deer Rebels.

Elite Prospects had the following to say about him:

Ben King’s offensive breakout has been pending for years now. He had the skill, he just needed to improve his skating and receive more opportunities. This year, that breakout came in the form of a 52-goal, 53-assist season. Now, the 20-year-old centre has everything in place to become one of the surprise Day 2 picks of the draft. Despite his stature, King’s game is not one of power; it’s one of intelligence. “He makes quick plays off the boards, flips pucks to teammates building speed on the inside, and [he] knows how to build advantages,” Elite Prospects Dir. of North American scouting Mitch Brown wrote. He’s always pockets of space in the offensive zone, often by circling away defenders then sprinting to the slot.“The extra space of the powerplay allows King’s vision, shooting, and thoughtfulness to shine. He creates different looks from the same position (half wall): shot-pass for a deflection, cross-slot pass, and step-in wrister,” Brown wrote in a February game report

This was King’s third season of draft eligibility and will most likely make the jump right away to either the ECHL or the AHL as a result of him being 20 years old.
