After months of armchair-GM speculation and mock drafts, we finally have our answer.

The Anaheim Ducks have selected Jamie Drysdale with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The 5’11” 170 lb Canadian defenseman put up 47 in 49 games last year in the OHL with the Erie Otters. He is considered to be one of the best skaters in the draft with a smooth stride, great acceleration, and the ability to puck up tremendous speed on his crossovers as he transitions. His defensive capabilities are already well-developed and he should immediately impact the Ducks positively in that regard when he hits the NHL.

The question with Drysdale is if his offensive game will translate at the higher levels where the game becomes much quicker and decision times become much shorter. He absolutely has two-way potential, with a ceiling similar to that of Miro Heiskanen. If Drysdale becomes that, this pick will turn out to be an outstanding one. The key will be his development in junior and in his time with San Diego, should be play there.
