Anaheim Ducks Select Ian Moore 67th Overall

The Anaheim Ducks selected Ian Moore with the 67th overall pick.

The 6’3” 165 pound right handed shot defenseman put up 12 goals and 34 assists for 46 points for St Mark’s School.

Moore will be playing for the Chicago Steel in the 20-21 season and then moving to Harvard starting in the 21-22 season, where he could potentially join another Ducks defense prospect in Henry Thrun if Thrun has not left yet.

Moore is very raw, but there is a lot of potential there. He is a much better skater than you would expect for someone that is 6’3”, and would consistently lead his team in the transition game offensively, while also being fantastic at defending in transition. He also bolsters a heavy shot that led to him getting a fair amount of goals and is the perfect type of shot to be tipped by teammates.

The issues with his game mainly come outside of the transition portion of the game. he can tend to be too cute in the offensive zone, while also panicking a bit under pressure in his own zone. The other two main issues were quality of competition and his consistency. It was tough to tell how good Moore was due to him playing on the high school circuit, so seeing him play in the USHL and eventually the NCAA will truly show his talent level. As for the consistency, he could have a period where it almost seemed like he was uninterested in the game and then the next period he would turn it on and dominate the game. This could be a result of him just being too good for the high school level, so once again his transition to the USHL and NCAA will be good for his development.

Moore is a bit of a project, but he has all of the tools to become a solid 2nd pairing D man that could be utilized on a power play.
